Food safety authorities intensify inspections across districts; 18 FIRs registered and 182 samples collected under special festival drive

Lucknow (Economy India): The Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has intensified its crackdown on food adulteration ahead of Raksha Bandhan, launching a special enforcement campaign to ensure that people have access to safe and quality food products during the festive season.

According to an official statement, the special enforcement drive began on August 20, 2026, ahead of Raksha Bandhan. So far, authorities have registered 18 FIRs and collected 182 food samples from different districts of the state.

Special Drive Against Food Adulteration

The campaign is aimed at preventing the sale and distribution of adulterated and substandard food products during the festival period, when demand for sweets, dairy products and other food items typically rises.

Food safety teams have been conducting inspections at food establishments and checking products to identify violations of prescribed quality and safety standards.

The department has also stepped up surveillance to prevent traders and manufacturers from taking advantage of increased festive demand.

182 Food Samples Collected

As part of the enforcement campaign, officials have collected 182 samples of food products from different locations across Uttar Pradesh.

The samples will be examined to determine whether they comply with applicable food safety and quality standards. Testing can help authorities identify adulteration or other violations and take further action where necessary.

The extensive sampling exercise is intended to strengthen checks on food products reaching consumers during the festive season.

18 FIRs Registered

The enforcement campaign has already resulted in the registration of 18 First Information Reports (FIRs) in different districts.

The cases indicate that authorities are taking action against alleged violations detected during inspections.

Officials are expected to continue enforcement activities throughout the festival period to deter food adulteration and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

Focus on Consumer Safety

Festivals such as Raksha Bandhan generally see a significant increase in demand for sweets, milk products, edible oils and other food items.

The increased demand can also create opportunities for unscrupulous traders to market products that do not meet prescribed safety or quality standards.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s campaign is therefore focused on ensuring that consumers receive food products that meet the required standards.

Enforcement to Continue

The special drive, which began on August 20, is being carried out across different districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Food safety officials are expected to continue inspections, collect samples and take action against violations during the campaign.

The department’s efforts are aimed at creating a deterrent against food adulteration while ensuring greater consumer confidence during Raksha Bandhan celebrations.

Why Food Safety Checks Matter During Festivals

Food safety becomes particularly important during major festivals because of the sharp rise in demand for perishable and prepared food products.

Regular inspections and laboratory testing can help identify products that may pose risks to consumers and ensure that businesses comply with established food safety requirements.

The Uttar Pradesh administration’s latest enforcement campaign highlights the importance of quality control, regulatory compliance and consumer protection during periods of heightened food consumption.

Uttar Pradesh has stepped up its enforcement efforts against food adulteration ahead of Raksha Bandhan, with authorities conducting inspections across the state.

Since the launch of the special drive on August 20, officials have registered 18 FIRs and collected 182 food samples as part of efforts to ensure compliance with food safety standards.

With festive demand expected to remain high, the campaign is aimed at protecting consumers and preventing the sale of adulterated or substandard food products across the state.
