NEW DELHI (Economy India): Broadband technology company Sterlite Technologies Ltd (STL) has set an ambitious target of achieving Rs 20,000 crore in revenue by FY29, as the company looks to significantly expand its presence in the global digital connectivity market.

The company announced its “Lakshya” growth ambition during an investor meet held on September 3. STL Managing Director Ankit Agarwal said the roadmap is aimed at building the company into one of the largest global players in digital connectivity.

Revenue Target More Than Four Times FY26 Level

STL reported consolidated revenue from operations of Rs 4,745 crore in FY26, according to its financial disclosures. The new Rs 20,000-crore target therefore represents an ambition to grow revenue by more than four times in three years.

The company has linked the growth strategy to rising demand for optical connectivity across telecommunications, data centres, enterprise networks and AI-driven digital infrastructure.

Focus on Digital Connectivity

Under Lakshya, STL plans to build on its existing optical connectivity capabilities while expanding into newer and faster-growing areas of digital infrastructure.

The company sees optical technology becoming increasingly important as data centres and digital networks require higher bandwidth and greater connectivity density. Its strategy includes serving the evolving requirements of telecom operators, cloud companies, data centres and large enterprises.

Rs 1,000 Crore Annual Investment Plan

STL Group Chief Financial Officer Ajay Jhanjhari said the company plans to invest approximately Rs 1,000 crore annually over the next three financial years.

The planned investment is expected to expand the company’s preform, fibre and cable capacities by around 50 per cent, allowing STL to respond to rising demand.

AI and Data Centres Emerging as Growth Drivers

The growth strategy comes as global demand for digital infrastructure continues to expand, particularly around artificial intelligence and data centres.

STL has identified the shift from traditional telecom connectivity towards AI data centres, inside-data-centre connectivity and data-centre interconnects as important areas of opportunity.

The company’s FY26 performance also provides a base for the expansion strategy. STL reported revenue of Rs 4,745 crore and EBITDA of Rs 628 crore for FY26, with an EBITDA margin of about 13.2 per cent.

Profitability Also in Focus

Lakshya is not only focused on revenue growth. STL has also outlined an ambition to raise its EBITDA margin to more than 27 per cent by FY29, compared with 13.2 per cent in FY26.

This indicates that the company intends to combine rapid expansion with an improvement in the quality and profitability of its business.

Building a Global Digital Infrastructure Player

STL said Lakshya is designed to transform the scale and position of the company by building on its core strengths, strengthening customer relationships and increasing its role in the world’s expanding digital infrastructure.

The company currently provides connectivity solutions across optical fibre, optical connectivity, data centres and digital infrastructure, with operations serving customers across more than 100 countries.

Road Ahead

STL’s Rs 20,000-crore FY29 revenue ambition represents a major step-up from its current scale. The planned capacity expansion, investments in optical infrastructure and focus on AI and data-centre connectivity are expected to be central to the company’s strategy.

If achieved, the target would significantly increase STL’s scale in the global digital connectivity market and strengthen its position as demand for high-speed, high-capacity infrastructure continues to grow.
