Higher input costs weigh on earnings as revenue crosses ₹6,233 crore in the June quarter

Shree Cement Reports Decline in Quarterly Profit

(Economy India): Shree Cement Ltd, India’s third-largest cement manufacturer by production capacity, reported a 17.48% decline in consolidated net profit for the first quarter of FY2026-27, as higher input costs impacted profitability despite strong revenue growth.

The company posted a net profit of ₹531.12 crore during the April–June quarter, compared with ₹643.66 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to a regulatory filing.

Revenue Rises 18% on Strong Sales

Despite lower earnings, Shree Cement recorded robust growth in its topline.

Revenue from operations increased 18% year-on-year to ₹6,233.13 crore in the June quarter, up from ₹5,280.88 crore reported in the same quarter of FY2025-26.

The higher revenue indicates healthy demand and improved sales volumes, although rising production costs continued to put pressure on margins.

Higher Input Costs Impact Margins

The company attributed the decline in quarterly profit primarily to higher input costs, which affected overall profitability during the quarter.

The cement industry has been facing cost pressures from energy, raw materials, freight, and logistics, even as infrastructure spending and housing demand continue to support revenue growth.

Industry Outlook

India’s cement sector is expected to benefit from sustained government expenditure on infrastructure, urban development, and affordable housing projects. However, fluctuations in fuel prices and raw material costs remain key challenges for manufacturers.

Market analysts believe that improving operational efficiency and cost optimisation will be crucial for cement companies to maintain profitability in the coming quarters.

  • Previous Year’s Revenue: ₹5,280.88 crore
  • Reason for Profit Decline: Higher input costs

Economy India Analysis

Shree Cement’s first-quarter results reflect the contrasting dynamics of India’s cement industry. While strong construction activity and infrastructure demand continue to drive revenue growth, rising input costs remain a significant challenge to profitability. The company’s ability to improve operational efficiencies and manage costs will be closely watched as the sector navigates a competitive environment and evolving commodity prices.
