SEBI Simplifies Securities Transmission Process, Introduces Fast-Track Route for Low-Value Claims

New Quick Transmission Processing (QTP) Framework to Ease Investor Claims

New Delhi (Eonomy India): In a major investor-friendly reform, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has simplified the transmission process for securities by introducing a Quick Transmission Processing (QTP) mechanism for low-value claims. The new framework also standardises documentation requirements to make the transfer of securities faster, simpler, and more efficient.

The revised norms, announced on Thursday, are aimed at reducing procedural delays faced by legal heirs and nominees while claiming securities after the death of an investor.

What is Quick Transmission Processing (QTP)?

Under the new framework, Quick Transmission Processing (QTP) will provide a fast-track route for transmitting securities with lower claim values.

The revised monetary limits are:

  • Physical securities: Claims up to ₹10,000
  • Demat holdings: Claims up to ₹30,000

Eligible claims under these limits will be processed through a simplified documentation route, enabling quicker settlement.

Key Changes in SEBI’s New Framework

The updated transmission framework introduces several investor-centric reforms:

  • Fast-track processing for low-value security claims.
  • Standardised documentation across intermediaries.
  • Reduced paperwork for legal heirs and nominees.
  • Quicker transfer of securities after the investor’s demise.
  • Improved efficiency and transparency in transmission procedures.

Why the Move Matters

Transmission of securities is the process through which ownership of shares or other securities is transferred to legal heirs or nominees following the death of the original holder.

Until now, investors often faced lengthy documentation and procedural delays. The introduction of the QTP mechanism is expected to:

  • Reduce claim processing time.
  • Minimise compliance burden.
  • Improve investor experience.
  • Encourage greater confidence in India’s capital markets.

Industry Impact

Market experts believe the simplified framework will particularly benefit small investors and families dealing with low-value security holdings. The standardisation of documents is also expected to reduce ambiguity across registrars, depositories, and other market intermediaries.

The move is part of SEBI’s broader effort to strengthen investor protection while making India’s securities market more transparent, accessible, and efficient.
