Raipur (Economy India): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Saion Monday inaugurated the RADA Auto Expo 2026 in Raipur, announcing a 50% lifetime road tax rebate on vehicles sold during the event—a move aimed at stimulating automobile demand, strengthening consumer confidence, and accelerating the state’s broader economic momentum.
The nine-day auto expo, organised by the Raipur Automobile Dealers Association (RADA) at Shriram Business Park, is being seen as a strategic intervention by the state government to link consumer spending, industrial growth, and revenue generation within a single policy framework.

“Chhattisgarh is progressing continuously on the path of development. Rising purchasing power among citizens is clearly visible in market demand,” Chief Minister Sai said while inaugurating the event.

Under a cabinet-approved decision, vehicles sold at the expo between January 20 and February 5, 2026, will receive a 50% waiver on lifetime motor vehicle road tax at the time of registration. The rebate applies across vehicle categories and is expected to significantly reduce upfront ownership costs.
Officials noted that this policy intervention mirrors last year’s successful tax incentive, which resulted in sales far exceeding official estimates.
In RADA Auto Expo 2025, the government had set a target of 25,000 vehicle sales, but actual registrations crossed 29,000 units, generating:
₹800 crore in GST revenue, and
₹129 crore for the transport department
Encouraged by this outcome, the state has now set an ambitious target of 50,000 vehicle sales for the 2026 edition.
Auto Expo Expands in Scale and Economic Ambition
This year’s RADA Auto Expo is notably larger in both physical scale and commercial intent.
300+ stalls showcasing two-wheelers, four-wheelers, EVs, and commercial vehicles
Participation from national and international automobile brands
Entrepreneurs and dealers from across Chhattisgarh
Within the first day itself, nearly 2,000 vehicle registrations were recorded, indicating strong early traction.
“The scale of this year’s expo reflects growing confidence in Chhattisgarh’s automobile market,” CM Sai said, adding that such expos should be held regularly to maintain economic momentum.
GST Reforms Lower Vehicle Prices
The Chief Minister also linked rising vehicle affordability to recent GST rationalisation, noting that tax reforms have reduced prices across segments.
According to feedback shared during public interactions:
Motorcycles have become cheaper by ₹15,000–₹25,000
Harvesters and agricultural equipment have seen price reductions of up to ₹2 lakh
These price corrections, combined with the road tax rebate, are expected to benefit both urban consumers and rural buyers, especially farmers and small entrepreneurs.

Road Infrastructure and Safety in Focus
Forest and Climate Change Minister Kedar Kashyap, addressing the gathering, underlined the link between road connectivity and vehicle demand.
“Continuous expansion of road infrastructure has improved connectivity across urban and rural areas, driving growth in both two-wheeler and four-wheeler sales,” he said.
He added that the auto expo is not merely a commercial event but also a platform for employment generation and MSME growth in the automobile ecosystem.
During the event, CM Sai also:
Signed the Road Safety Pledge
Urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules to reduce accidents
Released the poster for the upcoming Nari Marathon, scheduled around International Women’s Day
New Vehicle Launches and Book Release
Adding to the event’s significance, the Chief Minister unveiled several new models, including:
Yamaha XSR-155
Tata Sierra
Mahindra 7XO
He also released the book “Money Matters”, reflecting the expo’s broader focus on financial literacy and consumer awareness.
A Revenue-Positive Incentive Model
Despite the 50% road tax concession, officials emphasised that the policy remains revenue-positive, as higher sales volumes compensate for per-unit tax reductions through:
Increased GST collections
Higher registration volumes
Ancillary economic activity in logistics, insurance, and services
Economists note that such targeted fiscal incentives can stimulate demand without long-term strain on state finances.
Chhattisgarh Emerging as an Auto Growth Hub
With rising incomes, improved infrastructure, investor-friendly policies, and consumer incentives, Chhattisgarh is positioning itself as a fast-emerging automobile and industrial growth hub in central India.
The success of RADA Auto Expo 2026 could further strengthen the case for:
EV-focused incentives
Manufacturing-linked investments
Skill development in the auto and logistics sectors
As registrations surge and consumer response remains strong, the state’s experiment with demand-led economic stimulation is drawing attention far beyond its borders.
Economy India View
RADA Auto Expo 2026 is not just a vehicle showcase—it reflects Chhattisgarh’s evolving economic strategy where policy incentives, consumption growth, and industrial ambition converge. If sustained, this model could offer a template for other states seeking growth without fiscal excess.
