Asian Games bronze medallist storms into women’s 54kg semifinals with a dominant 5-0 victory

Glasgow (Economy India): India’s boxing campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games received another major boost as Asian Games bronze medallist Preeti Pawar assured the country of its second boxing medal by reaching the women’s 54kg semifinals on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Indian pugilist produced a clinical performance to defeat Northern Ireland’s Nicole Clyde by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the quarterfinals, guaranteeing herself at least a bronze medal under the tournament’s format.

Dominant Display in Quarterfinal

Despite giving away a height advantage to her opponent, Preeti displayed exceptional speed, footwork and ring awareness from the opening bell. Fighting in the blue corner, she consistently landed sharp combinations and controlled the pace of the bout.

Her aggressive yet composed approach left Clyde struggling to find rhythm, allowing the Indian boxer to sweep all five judges’ scorecards.

India’s Medal Hopes Strengthen

The victory ensures India adds another medal to its boxing tally at the Commonwealth Games and reinforces Preeti Pawar’s status as one of the country’s brightest boxing talents.

Having already won a bronze medal at the Asian Games, Preeti will now aim to upgrade her guaranteed bronze into a silver or even gold when she competes in the semifinals.

Road Ahead

With confidence high after a one-sided quarterfinal win, Preeti will look to continue her impressive form in the semifinals as India chases more medals in Glasgow.
