Nepal Celebrates 213th Birth Anniversary

Kathmandu ( Economy India ): Nepal marked the 213th birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta Acharya, one of the country’s most celebrated literary figures, with cultural events and commemorative programmes held across the nation.

Bhanubhakta Acharya is widely regarded as the first poet of the Nepali language and is best known for translating the Valmiki Ramayan into Nepali, making the ancient epic accessible to ordinary people.

Nationwide Celebrations

Various literary, cultural, and educational organizations organized events to honor the poet’s lasting contribution to Nepal’s language, literature, and cultural heritage.

The main celebration in Kathmandu was hosted by Bhanu Pratishthan, where scholars, writers, and public representatives paid tribute to Acharya’s legacy.

Speaker Pays Tribute

Addressing the event, House of Representatives Speaker Dol Kumar Aryal described Bhanubhakta Acharya as a pioneer of Nepali language, literature, and culture.

He emphasized that Acharya’s works continue to inspire generations and play a significant role in preserving Nepal’s literary identity.

Legacy of Bhanubhakta Acharya

Born in 1814, Bhanubhakta Acharya transformed Nepali literature by translating the Sanskrit Valmiki Ramayan into simple Nepali. His work enabled common people to read and understand one of Hinduism’s greatest epics in their own language.

Because of his immense contribution, he is affectionately known as “Adikavi” (The First Poet) of Nepal.
