Boosting India’s Energy Security with Advanced Power Solutions
New Delhi (Economy India): Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has won a significant order from Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) to establish a 2×660 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant at Hasdeo Thermal Power Station (HTPS), Korba West. The contract, secured through a competitive domestic bidding process, reinforces BHEL’s position as a key player in India’s energy sector.
Strengthening India’s Power Infrastructure
The project will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) basis, covering the design, engineering, manufacturing, and supply of critical equipment, including supercritical boilers, turbines, and generators. BHEL will also be responsible for the complete construction, testing, and commissioning of the thermal power station.
Cutting-Edge Technology for Cleaner Energy
To ensure compliance with environmental regulations, the project will incorporate Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) technology, designed and manufactured by BHEL. This system will significantly reduce SOx (sulfur oxide) emissions, aligning with India’s clean energy transition and sustainability goals.

Driving Self-Reliance in Power Generation
As India’s leading power equipment manufacturer, BHEL has contributed to the installation of over 172,000 MW of utility power capacity across the country. This latest project will not only enhance Chhattisgarh’s energy capacity but also contribute to the nation’s self-reliance in power production, a core objective of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Boosting Economic Growth and Employment
The project will generate significant employment opportunities in the region, boosting the local economy while promoting indigenous technology and industrial development. BHEL’s expertise in executing large-scale power projects will play a crucial role in advancing India’s energy security and sustainability.
BHEL’s new contract marks another milestone in India’s pursuit of efficient, reliable, and environmentally friendly power generation. The successful completion of this project will further strengthen the country’s power infrastructure and contribute to its long-term energy goals.
