State Also Allocates ₹75 Crore for Automated Diagnostic Labs in Major Medical Colleges

SHIMLA (Economy India): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Saturday announced that the state government has released ₹100 crore to the Health Department to clear pending payments under the Himcare health insurance scheme.

The announcement was made during a high-level review meeting with senior Health Department officials in Shimla, according to an official statement.

Government Focused on Accessible Healthcare

Chief Minister Sukhu said the state government remains committed to providing quality and specialized healthcare services closer to people’s homes.

He highlighted that several reforms have been introduced in the health sector over the last three-and-a-half years to strengthen medical infrastructure and improve healthcare delivery across Himachal Pradesh.

“Our objective is to ensure that people receive better healthcare facilities without having to travel long distances,” Sukhu said during the meeting.

₹100 Crore Released for Himcare Scheme

The Himcare scheme is one of Himachal Pradesh’s flagship healthcare initiatives aimed at providing financial protection and affordable medical treatment to eligible families.

The release of ₹100 crore is expected to help clear outstanding dues and ensure smooth implementation of the scheme, benefiting hospitals and patients across the state.

Health officials believe the move will strengthen the scheme’s operational efficiency and improve access to healthcare services.

₹75 Crore for Automated Diagnostic Laboratories

In another major healthcare initiative, the state government has sanctioned ₹75 crore for establishing automated laboratories in three key medical institutions:

  • Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties (AIMSS), Chamiyana
  • Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla
  • Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda

The advanced laboratories will enable multiple diagnostic tests to be conducted simultaneously using a single blood sample, significantly improving efficiency and reducing waiting times for patients.

Boost to Medical Infrastructure

Officials said the new automated testing facilities will help strengthen diagnostic capabilities, improve patient care and support doctors with faster and more accurate medical reports.

The initiative forms part of the state’s broader healthcare modernization strategy aimed at upgrading medical institutions and introducing advanced technologies into public healthcare services.

Healthcare Reforms Continue

The Himachal Pradesh government has been focusing on expanding healthcare infrastructure, improving medical services and ensuring greater accessibility to treatment in both urban and rural areas.

The latest funding allocations are expected to provide a significant boost to healthcare delivery and diagnostic services in the state.
