WASHINGTON, (Economy India): Prominent Indian industry representative and former CII executive Shuchita Sonalika has been appointed as the first Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Canada-India Business Council (C-IBC), marking an important step in strengthening the council’s institutional and business outreach.

Her appointment comes at a time when economic relations between India and Canada are witnessing renewed momentum, with businesses and investors on both sides exploring opportunities for greater trade, investment and commercial cooperation.

Sonalika is a senior international affairs leader with nearly 18 years of experience in advancing India’s economic partnerships across North America, Europe and other global markets. During her career, she has worked closely with industry stakeholders and international partners on issues related to trade, investment and economic engagement.

As the first COO of C-IBC, Sonalika is expected to play a key role in strengthening the council’s operations and expanding its engagement with companies, investors, policymakers and industry organisations in both countries.

Her experience is also expected to help the council identify new areas of collaboration and facilitate stronger connections between Indian and Canadian businesses. Sectors such as technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, financial services and innovation could provide significant opportunities for deeper bilateral engagement.

Welcoming the appointment, Victor Thomas, President and Chief Executive Officer of C-IBC, said it would significantly strengthen the council’s capacity and position it to play an increasingly consequential role in the rapidly evolving economic corridor between India and Canada.

The C-IBC has been working to promote stronger business relationships and create platforms for companies from the two countries to engage with each other. With Sonalika taking charge as COO, the organisation is expected to further strengthen its ability to support businesses looking at cross-border opportunities.

The appointment also comes against the backdrop of efforts to give fresh momentum to India-Canada economic ties. Both countries have significant potential for cooperation, given the size of their respective markets and the presence of businesses and investors seeking new international opportunities.

Sonalika’s extensive experience in international affairs and economic partnerships is expected to bring additional strategic depth to C-IBC’s work. Her role could be particularly important in helping businesses navigate changing global trade conditions and identify areas where India and Canada can build mutually beneficial partnerships.

With bilateral economic engagement gaining renewed attention, her appointment is likely to be closely watched by industry stakeholders as C-IBC seeks to expand its role as a bridge between the two business communities.
