ETAH (UP) (Economy India): A man was arrested after allegedly damaging idols of deities at the Shivchintaharan temple in Marhara town of Etah district, police said on Friday.
According to police, the accused, identified as Kuldeep Sharma, a resident of Brahmanpuri locality, entered the temple in Bada Bazar around 8 pm on Thursday in an allegedly inebriated condition. He reportedly created a ruckus inside the temple and damaged the idols with his hands.
The incident caused a commotion at the temple premises. When priest Vinod Mishra tried to intervene and stop Sharma, the accused allegedly misbehaved with him and attempted to engage in a scuffle. Sharma then fled from the spot.
Police were informed about the incident and subsequently took action. Sharma was arrested and legal proceedings were initiated against him.
Police said the matter is being investigated to establish the exact sequence of events and assess the damage caused to the temple idols. Further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
