‘Dhurandhar’ Becomes Highest-Grossing Hindi Film in India, Crosses ₹831 Crore; Surpasses ‘Pushpa 2’ Record

SHARESHARESHARESHARE

Mumbai (Economy India): Bollywood has scripted a historic moment at the Indian box office as ‘Dhurandhar’ has officially emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film ever in India, rewriting industry records and redefining commercial benchmarks.

On its 33rd day of release, the Ranveer Singh-led blockbuster crossed a staggering ₹831.40 crore net collection at the Indian box office, overtaking Allu Arjun’s ‘Pushpa 2’, which had earlier held the record with ₹821 crore in Hindi-language earnings.

The film collected ₹5.70 crore on January 6 alone, underlining its extraordinary staying power even after more than a month in theatres. Globally, Dhurandhar has already amassed ₹1,253.83 crore, placing it firmly among India’s biggest cinematic successes of all time.

A Landmark Achievement for Hindi Cinema

With this feat, Dhurandhar becomes the highest-grossing Hindi film in Indian box office history, a milestone that signals a renewed golden phase for Bollywood after years of competition from South Indian cinema and Hollywood releases.

Trade analysts say the film’s success reflects:

  • Massive pan-India appeal
  • Strong word-of-mouth
  • Repeat audience value
  • Strategic release planning

“This is not just a blockbuster; it’s an industry-defining film. Dhurandhar has reset the revenue ceiling for Hindi cinema,” said a senior film trade analyst.

India Box Office Performance: Week-Wise Breakdown

The film’s domestic performance showcases remarkable consistency across weeks:

  • Week 1: ₹218.00 crore
  • Week 2: ₹261.50 crore
  • Week 3: ₹189.30 crore
  • Week 4: ₹115.70 crore
  • Week 5: ₹35.80 crore
  • Day 32 (Monday): ₹5.40 crore
  • Day 33 (Tuesday): ₹5.70 crore

Total India Net Collection: ₹831.40 crore

Such sustained earnings over five weeks are rarely seen in Hindi cinema and point to exceptional audience engagement across metros, Tier-2, and Tier-3 markets.

Surpassing ‘Pushpa 2’: A Symbolic Shift

By overtaking Pushpa 2, Dhurandhar has also marked a symbolic shift in the box office landscape. Over the last few years, South Indian films—especially dubbed versions—had dominated the all-time Hindi box office charts.

Dhurandhar’s achievement signals:

  • Bollywood’s renewed ability to deliver pan-India blockbusters
  • Growing audience acceptance of large-scale Hindi action entertainers
  • The power of strong storytelling blended with scale and spectacle

Ranveer Singh’s Biggest Career Milestone

For Ranveer Singh, Dhurandhar is the biggest commercial success of his career, firmly cementing his position as one of the most bankable stars in Indian cinema.

Industry insiders believe the film will significantly enhance:

  • His brand endorsements value
  • Future remuneration benchmarks
  • His standing in pan-India and overseas markets

“This film has taken Ranveer into the league of true box office juggernauts,” a leading distributor noted.

Global Box Office: Strong Overseas Response

Beyond India, Dhurandhar has performed exceptionally well in international markets, particularly in:

  • North America
  • Middle East
  • Australia
  • UK

With a worldwide gross of ₹1,253.83 crore, the film joins an elite club of Indian movies that have crossed the ₹1,200 crore global mark.

Economics of a Mega-Blockbuster

From a business perspective, Dhurandhar represents a textbook case of how:

  • Big-budget production
  • Aggressive marketing
  • Wide theatrical release
  • Strong music and action appeal

can translate into long-term box office momentum.

The film has already recovered its production and marketing costs multiple times over, delivering exceptional returns for producers, distributors, exhibitors, and digital rights holders.

Impact on Bollywood’s Market Sentiment

Trade experts believe Dhurandhar’s historic run will have wider implications for the industry:

  • Encouragement for large-scale Hindi productions
  • Increased investor confidence in theatrical releases
  • Higher satellite, OTT, and music rights valuations
  • Revival of single-screen theatres

The film’s success may also influence release strategies for upcoming big-ticket Hindi films in 2026 and beyond.

What Lies Ahead?

Despite entering its sixth week, Dhurandhar continues to draw audiences, and analysts believe the film could still add ₹15–25 crore more to its domestic total, depending on new releases and screen retention.

Bottom Line

Dhurandhar is no longer just a blockbuster—it is a benchmark. By becoming the highest-grossing Hindi film in India, the movie has redefined box office economics and restored Bollywood’s dominance in the theatrical space.

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: Indian cinema has a new commercial king.
