KATHMANDU, (Economy india): China has provided USD 2.2 million in financial assistance to Nepal to support victims of the devastating flash floods that caused widespread loss of life and property, the Nepal government said on Monday.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang also expressed their condolences over the deaths and destruction caused by the disaster.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming handed over a cheque of NPR 350 million, equivalent to around USD 2 million, to Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle on Sunday as financial assistance from the Chinese government, Nepal’s Finance Ministry said.

In addition, the Chinese envoy handed over USD 200,000 in assistance from the Chinese Red Cross to the Nepal government.

The total Chinese assistance of USD 2.2 million is expected to support Nepal’s relief and recovery efforts following the devastating floods. The disaster has affected several communities, causing major damage to homes, infrastructure and livelihoods.

Nepal has been receiving international support as authorities continue relief and rescue operations in the flood-hit areas. The assistance from China reflects continued cooperation between the two neighbouring countries during times of humanitarian crisis.

The Nepal government is expected to use the aid to support affected families and strengthen ongoing disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts in the worst-hit regions.
