Pune, Maharashtra (Economy India): Bisleri International Pvt. Ltd., India’s leading packaged drinking water company, has successfully carried out a large-scale plastic waste management and awareness campaign during the Pune Wari 2026, one of Maharashtra’s most revered annual religious pilgrimages.

The initiative was conducted under the company’s flagship sustainability program, Bottles for Change, in partnership with the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). The campaign is part of a three-year collaboration focused on improving waste management practices and encouraging responsible plastic disposal across the region.

During the pilgrimage, the campaign reached more than one lakh devotees through awareness drives, community engagement activities, clean-up campaigns, and recycling initiatives. As a result, approximately 6 metric tonnes (MT) of plastic waste were collected and sent for proper recycling, helping reduce environmental pollution during the large public gathering.

The Pune Wari attracts lakhs of devotees every year, making effective waste management a significant challenge. Recognising this, Bisleri deployed volunteers and awareness teams to educate pilgrims about the importance of segregating plastic waste and disposing of used bottles responsibly.

The initiative also highlighted the importance of the circular economy, where used plastic bottles are collected, recycled, and transformed into new products instead of ending up in landfills or water bodies. Through its Bottles for Change program, Bisleri continues to promote sustainable waste management by encouraging citizens to treat plastic as a recyclable resource rather than waste.

Company officials said the campaign reflects Bisleri’s long-term commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible plastic recycling. By collaborating with local authorities and communities, the company aims to create cleaner public spaces while increasing awareness about the importance of recycling.

The success of the Pune Wari campaign demonstrates how public-private partnerships can contribute to better waste management at large-scale events. As India continues to focus on sustainability and environmental protection, initiatives like Bottles for Change are expected to play a key role in promoting responsible waste disposal and supporting a cleaner, greener future.
