PATNA: (Aug 29), (Economy india): Around 100 pilgrims from Maharashtra who were stranded in Kathmandu following devastating flash floods in Nepal have been safely evacuated with the assistance of the Bihar government and sent towards their home state by train, according to an official statement issued on Saturday.

The evacuation operation was carried out by the Bihar Disaster Management Department following a request from the Maharashtra government. The coordinated effort helped bring the stranded pilgrims out of flood-affected Nepal and ensure their safe return journey to India.

According to the statement, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary directed authorities to provide all necessary assistance to the pilgrims. Following these instructions, the Sitamarhi district administration coordinated the rescue and transportation arrangements.

The pilgrims were brought safely from the Nepal border to Sitamarhi in Bihar on Friday. Local authorities and disaster management officials worked together to facilitate their movement and provide support during the evacuation process.

After reaching Sitamarhi, arrangements were made for the pilgrims to continue their journey to Maharashtra by train. Officials ensured that the group could travel home safely after spending days stranded in Kathmandu amid severe flooding and disruptions.

The flash floods in Nepal have caused widespread devastation, damaging roads, bridges and other important infrastructure. Transportation services in several areas have been badly affected, leaving residents, tourists and pilgrims stranded.

The situation has prompted authorities in neighbouring Indian states to coordinate closely with Nepalese officials and other state governments to assist Indian citizens affected by the disaster.

The Bihar government’s intervention came after the Maharashtra government sought assistance in bringing the pilgrims safely back to India. The successful evacuation reflects cooperation between different state administrations during a major humanitarian crisis.

Officials said disaster management teams and district authorities remained actively involved in assisting people affected by the disruption near the India-Nepal border.

The safe evacuation of around 100 pilgrims has brought relief to their families in Maharashtra, who had been concerned about their safety following reports of widespread destruction caused by the floods.

The Bihar government said it remains committed to providing necessary humanitarian assistance and coordinating with other authorities whenever required during the ongoing crisis.
