NEW DELHI: (Economy India)— Mohit Jain, Chief Operating Officer (Publishing) and Board Member of Bennett Coleman & Co Ltd (BCCL), has been unanimously elected as Chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) for the 2026-27 term.
Jain’s election is significant for BCCL as the company returns to the chairmanship of the Audit Bureau of Circulations after 43 years. His appointment also comes at a time when the Indian media industry is witnessing major changes in both print and digital publishing.
BCCL is one of India’s largest media organisations and publishes some of the country’s leading newspapers, including The Times of India and The Economic Times. The company has a strong presence in the Indian newspaper market and has played an important role in the development of the country’s publishing industry.
The Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC) was established in 1948 as a not-for-profit organisation to independently audit and certify the circulation figures of newspapers and magazines. Its circulation certification provides an important benchmark for publishers, advertisers and media agencies.
Accurate circulation figures are particularly important for the print advertising industry because advertisers and agencies use them to evaluate the reach and potential audience of newspapers and magazines. ABC’s independent auditing process is aimed at ensuring greater transparency and credibility in circulation data.
Jain brings extensive experience from the publishing sector to his new role. As COO (Publishing) and a board member of BCCL, he has been associated with one of the country’s most prominent media groups and has experience in managing large-scale publishing operations.
His tenure as ABC chairman is expected to focus on strengthening the bureau’s role in an evolving media environment. While digital platforms have expanded rapidly, print publications continue to maintain a substantial readership across India, particularly in regional and local markets.
The return of BCCL to the ABC chairmanship after more than four decades is therefore being seen as an important development for the country’s traditional publishing sector. Jain’s election also underlines the continued relevance of credible and independently verified circulation data for India’s media and advertising ecosystem.
