AMARAVATI, (Economy india): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari following the approval of the ambitious 1,107-km Kharagpur-Amaravati greenfield highway project.

The major infrastructure project is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Andhra Pradesh and eastern India. According to the state government, the highway will include a 457-km four-lane stretch through Andhra Pradesh, with the portion estimated to cost around Rs 32,000 crore.

Naidu described the approval as an important milestone for Andhra Pradesh and said the project would create a stronger road link between the state and the eastern parts of the country. Improved connectivity is expected to benefit the movement of people as well as the transportation of goods and commodities.

The proposed greenfield highway is also expected to strengthen road infrastructure in regions along its route and provide better access to important commercial and economic centres. Such connectivity could help businesses reduce travel time and improve logistics efficiency.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the Centre for supporting the project and acknowledged the role of Prime Minister Modi and Nitin Gadkari in moving the proposal forward.

The highway is expected to have wider economic significance for Andhra Pradesh, particularly by improving links with markets in eastern India. Better road connectivity can encourage investment, support industrial activity and create opportunities for businesses operating across different regions.

The project also comes as Andhra Pradesh continues to focus on large-scale infrastructure development to strengthen its transport network and attract new economic activity. The Kharagpur-Amaravati corridor could become an important part of this broader development strategy.

With the approval of the 1,107-km greenfield highway, Andhra Pradesh is set to gain a major new transportation link that could improve regional connectivity and contribute to the state’s long-term economic growth.
