New Delhi (Economy India): Adani Power Ltd (APL), a subsidiary of the diversified Adani Group, has secured a significant milestone with the receipt of a Letter of Award (LoA) from the MP Power Management Company Ltd (MPPMCL) for the supply of power from a proposed 800 MW Ultra-Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Madhya Pradesh.
The announcement, made by Adani Power on Saturday, marks a major development in the company’s expansion strategy in India’s power sector. The project will be executed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, ensuring a comprehensive responsibility framework from inception to operations.

Competitive Tariff Advantage
According to the company’s statement, Adani Power emerged as one of the lowest bidders in a highly competitive bidding process. The final tariff was fixed at ₹5.838 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), which is considered competitive in the thermal power sector, and ensures affordable supply to the state distribution companies.
Boost to Madhya Pradesh’s Power Infrastructure
The establishment of the 800 MW unit is expected to strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s power availability, enhancing energy security for both industrial and residential consumers. The project will play a pivotal role in meeting the state’s growing electricity demand, particularly as the industrial and commercial sectors continue to expand.
Strategic Significance for Adani Power
This development comes at a time when Adani Power is aggressively expanding its capacity footprint across India. With multiple projects under development, the company is positioning itself as a leading private sector power producer in the country.
The successful award also reflects Adani Power’s cost efficiency, technical expertise, and execution capabilities in the ultra-supercritical thermal power segment.
National Energy Context
India’s power demand has been surging due to rapid industrialization, digitalization, and increased electrification in rural areas. While renewable energy is growing at a fast pace, thermal power continues to account for nearly 70% of India’s electricity generation, making projects like Adani Power’s new plant crucial for stability and base-load supply.
