AMRAVATI, (Economy India): Five people were killed and 21 others injured after a truck rammed into a Bolero pickup van on the Samruddhi Expressway near Dhamangaon in Maharashtra’s Amravati district, police said on Friday.
The accident took place at around 12:45 am on Channel 97 of the expressway near Dhamangaon railway station, according to a senior police official.
Truck Hit Pickup Van From Behind
According to police, the truck struck the pickup van from behind, resulting in multiple casualties.
Five people travelling in the pickup van died in the accident, while 21 others sustained injuries.
The injured were initially taken to Dhamangaon Rural Hospital for medical treatment. They were subsequently referred to Wardha Medical College for further care, another police official said.
Investigation Underway
Police have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Officials are examining how the collision occurred and the circumstances leading up to the truck hitting the pickup van on the expressway.
