Investors eye US non-farm payrolls, global PMI data and geopolitical developments for direction in precious metals

New Delhi (Economy India): Gold and silver prices are expected to remain range-bound in the coming week as global investors await key economic indicators, particularly the US non-farm payrolls (NFP) report, for fresh clues on the Federal Reserve’s future interest rate path.

According to market analysts, the precious metals market is currently in a consolidation phase, with traders avoiding aggressive positions ahead of major macroeconomic data releases and geopolitical developments.

US Employment Data to Set Market Direction

The primary focus this week will be on the US July employment report, including:

  • Non-Farm Payrolls (NFP)
  • Unemployment Rate
  • Labour market trends

A stronger-than-expected jobs report could reinforce expectations that the US Federal Reserve may keep interest rates elevated for longer, potentially weighing on gold and silver prices. Conversely, weaker employment data could revive hopes of monetary easing, supporting precious metals.

PMI Data from Major Economies in Focus

Apart from US jobs data, investors will closely monitor Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) readings from:

  • United States
  • United Kingdom
  • Eurozone
  • Japan

These indicators will provide fresh insights into global economic activity, manufacturing performance and business sentiment, influencing demand for safe-haven assets.

Federal Reserve Outlook Remains Key

Analysts believe the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy outlook continues to be the biggest driver for gold prices.

Since gold does not generate interest income, expectations regarding US interest rates significantly influence investor demand. A prolonged period of higher rates generally strengthens the US dollar and Treasury yields, making gold relatively less attractive.

Geopolitical Risks Continue to Support Safe-Haven Demand

Beyond economic data, markets will remain sensitive to geopolitical developments, particularly:

  • The evolving US-Iran tensions
  • Stability of crude oil supplies
  • Security of major global shipping routes

Any escalation in geopolitical risks could increase safe-haven buying in gold and silver.

Precious Metals Outlook

Analysts expect gold and silver to trade within a limited range until greater clarity emerges from economic data and central bank guidance.

Volatility may increase immediately after the release of US employment figures and any fresh comments from Federal Reserve officials.

Economy India Analysis

Gold and silver markets are entering a critical phase as investors balance inflation concerns, interest rate expectations and geopolitical uncertainty. While precious metals continue to benefit from safe-haven demand, stronger US economic data could delay Federal Reserve rate cuts, limiting upside potential. Until clearer signals emerge, analysts expect prices to remain largely range-bound with short-term volatility around key economic releases.
