Auction to Be Conducted Through E-Kuber Platform to Manage Government Debt
Mumbai (Economy India): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a buyback of Government Securities (G-Secs) worth ₹20,000 crore, with the auction scheduled for July 28, 2026. The move is aimed at managing the government’s debt profile and ensuring orderly liquidity in the financial system.
According to an RBI notification, the buyback auction will be conducted between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM through the E-Kuber Core Banking Solution.

Securities Included in the Buyback
The RBI will buy back the following government securities:
- 7.33% GS 2026
- 5.74% GS 2026
- 8.15% GS 2026
- 8.24% GS 2027
These securities are nearing maturity, and the buyback will help the government smoothen its debt repayment schedule while improving liquidity management.
Why the Buyback Matters
A government bond buyback allows the RBI, on behalf of the Government of India, to repurchase outstanding securities before their maturity. Such operations help:
- Reduce refinancing risks.
- Improve the maturity profile of government debt.
- Enhance liquidity in the bond market.
- Support efficient cash and debt management.
Market participants, including banks, financial institutions, and eligible investors holding these securities, can participate in the auction through the RBI’s E-Kuber platform.
Market Impact
Bond buyback operations are a regular part of the RBI’s debt management strategy. By retiring older securities before maturity, the government can better manage its borrowing programme and maintain stability in the domestic bond market.
Investors will closely monitor the auction results, as they may influence bond yields, liquidity conditions, and expectations regarding future government borrowing.
