Gangtok ( Economy India ):More than 37,000 people have been left out of Sikkim’s draft electoral rolls published on Sunday following the completion of the enumeration phase under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the state’s voter list.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), the state had 4,71,018 registered voters as of May 20. During the enumeration drive conducted between May 30 and June 28, officials collected and digitised 4,33,294 enumeration forms.
The difference between the total number of registered electors and the enumeration forms received has resulted in over 37,000 names not appearing in the draft electoral rolls.
Election officials said the publication of the draft list is part of the revision process, and eligible voters who have been left out will have the opportunity to submit claims, objections, or corrections in accordance with the Election Commission’s guidelines.
The Special Intensive Revision aims to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls by updating voter records and removing ineligible or duplicate entries before future elections.
