18-Year-Old Student Reportedly Died Under Mysterious Circumstances During Swimming Competition in Amritsar

AMRITSAR (Economy India): An 18-year-old Class 12 student allegedly died under mysterious circumstances in the swimming pool of a school in Punjab‘s Amritsar district on Friday, prompting demands for a high-level investigation into the incident.

According to police, the incident occurred at Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School of Excellence, located in Shubham Enclave on GT Road, where the student had reportedly gone to participate in a swimming competition organized by the school.

The deceased has been identified as Aryan, a Class 12 student.

Student Declared Dead at Hospital

According to Aryan’s mother, Sunita, her son had gone to the school to take part in the swimming event.

She stated that following the incident, Aryan was taken to Nova Medisity Hospital at around 8 PM, where doctors declared him dead.

The exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

Family Raises Questions Over Incident

Sunita alleged that after admitting her son to the hospital, members of the school management left the premises and subsequently became unreachable.

She further claimed that the family had not been informed about the precise cause of Aryan’s death inside the swimming pool.

Expressing concern over the lack of clarity surrounding the incident, she demanded a high-level inquiry to determine the facts and establish accountability.

Police Seek Detailed Investigation

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP-East) Ravinder Singh Sidhu said it was surprising that neither the school management nor the family immediately informed the police about the incident.

He emphasized that the matter requires a thorough investigation to ascertain the sequence of events and determine whether any negligence was involved.

Police officials have indicated that statements from school authorities, hospital staff and family members will be examined as part of the inquiry.

Questions Over Safety Protocols

The incident has raised concerns regarding safety measures and emergency response protocols at educational institutions conducting sporting activities, particularly swimming competitions.

Authorities are expected to examine whether proper supervision, medical preparedness and pool safety standards were in place at the time of the incident.

Further investigation is underway.
