NEW DELHI (Economy India): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday held a series of high-level telephonic conversations with key West Asian leaders, including the King of Bahrain, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, and the King of Jordan, as tensions escalate across the region.

During the discussions, the Prime Minister strongly condemned recent attacks on Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, calling them a violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity, and asserted that India stands in full solidarity with the people of the affected nations during this difficult period.

Calls with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia

PM Modi spoke with Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia.

According to official sources, the Prime Minister:

  • Condemned attacks targeting Bahrain and Saudi Arabia
  • Emphasised respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity
  • Called for the earliest restoration of peace and stability in West Asia
  • Thanked both leaders for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Indian community residing in their countries

India has one of its largest overseas diasporas in the Gulf region, making the safety of Indian nationals a key diplomatic priority amid rising tensions.

Conversation with Jordan’s King Abdullah II

PM Modi also spoke with Abdullah II, conveying India’s deep concern over the rapidly evolving security situation in West Asia.

The Prime Minister underscored the need for dialogue, restraint, and diplomacy to prevent further escalation and wider regional instability.

India’s Diplomatic Stand on West Asia

India has consistently advocated:

  • De-escalation of hostilities
  • Protection of civilians
  • Respect for international law
  • Dialogue as the only sustainable path to peace

With millions of Indians living and working across the Gulf, and the region being vital for energy security, trade, and remittances, New Delhi has intensified diplomatic outreach amid fears of a prolonged conflict.

Strategic and Economic Implications

West Asia remains critical for India due to:

  • Energy imports routed through the Strait of Hormuz
  • Strong trade ties with Gulf economies
  • Large Indian diaspora contributing remittances

Any prolonged instability could impact oil prices, inflation, shipping routes, and financial markets, making diplomatic engagement a strategic necessity for India.

Economy India Insight

India’s outreach to multiple West Asian leaders within a short span highlights New Delhi’s balanced diplomacy, focused on peace, civilian safety, and protection of national economic interests amid geopolitical uncertainty.
