Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated, laid foundation stones, and dedicated to the nation development projects worth more than Rs7,000 crore during a major public event held in Motihari, Bihar. Addressing a large gathering, PM Modi emphasized the historic importance of Champaran and expressed confidence that the same land that inspired Mahatma Gandhi will now shape Bihar’s new future.

Champaran’s Historical Significance to Lead a New Era of Progress

PM Modi recalled Champaran’s role during the freedom struggle and drew parallels with Bihar’s modern-day potential. He offered prayers at the revered Baba Someshwarnath temple and wished prosperity and happiness for the people of Bihar during the sacred Sawan month.

He said, “This land gave direction to Mahatma Gandhi. Today, this same land will inspire a new direction for Bihar’s development.”

East India’s Time Has Come: From Patna to Santhal, Gaya to Motihari

Highlighting a new development narrative, PM Modi said the 21st century is witnessing the rise of Eastern countries globally, and similarly, India’s eastern states are set to lead domestically. “Just like Mumbai in the west, Motihari will become a major economic hub in the east. Gaya will have opportunities like Gurugram, Patna will see industrial growth like Pune, and Santhal Pargana will mirror Surat’s success.”

He also envisioned Jaipur-like tourism in Jalpaiguri and Jajpur, and Bengaluru-style progress in Birbhum.

From Political Neglect to Economic Empowerment: Rs9 Lakh Crore for Bihar

Taking a swipe at previous governments, PM Modi compared past allocations to Bihar, saying, “In the 10 years before 2014, Bihar received only Rs2 lakh crore. Under our government in the last 10 years, Bihar has been allocated nearly ₹9 lakh crore.”

He accused earlier regimes of political vendetta, where Bihar’s development was deliberately sidelined. “Our government ended this culture of political revenge in 2014 and began inclusive development.”

Empowering the Poor: 60 Lakh Homes Built in Bihar

PM Modi proudly noted that over 60 lakh homes have been built in Bihar under the PM Awas Yojana, which is more than the total population of countries like Norway, New Zealand, and Singapore. In Motihari alone, 3 lakh families have received homes, with 12,000 families receiving house keys during the event.

He emphasized that over 40,000 poor families, many from Dalit, Mahadalit, and backward classes, received direct financial aid to construct permanent homes. “In the past, people feared even painting their walls, lest they be targeted by corrupt officials. Today, every poor family has the right to live with dignity,” he said.

Vision for a Developed Bihar

The Prime Minister praised the determination of Bihar’s people and said that the combination of a committed state and central government has made rapid development possible. “A developed Bihar is the key to a developed East India,” he concluded.
