New York (Economy India): An Indian national accused of involvement in a murder-for-hire plot targeting a Sikh extremist in the United States has pleaded guilty to the charges in a US federal court.
Nikhil Gupta entered a guilty plea on Friday on charges related to a conspiracy to carry out a contract killing on American soil, according to court proceedings.
US Magistrate Judge Sarah Netburn has recommended that the guilty plea be formally accepted by District Judge Victor Marrero. The court has scheduled a control date for March 15, when further procedural steps in the case are expected.
The case has drawn international attention due to its cross-border implications and the seriousness of the allegations, which involve an alleged plot against a Sikh separatist figure based in the United States.
