Workshop Focuses on Panchayat-Level Development Planning
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is gearing up to launch the ‘Jan Yojana Abhiyan 2024’ on October 2, 2024, which marks the beginning of the annual exercise of preparing Panchayat Development Plans (PDPs) at all three levels of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs). The workshop on September 30 will focus on strategies, approaches, and roadmaps for officials, elected representatives, Panchayati Raj faculties, and other stakeholders.

The national workshop will witness the participation of approximately 400 delegates, including officials from central ministries and departments, state Panchayati Raj departments, elected representatives from the three tiers of PRIs, and other key stakeholders. During the inaugural session, a video message by Union Panchayati Raj Minister, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh, will be showcased, emphasizing the need for wholehearted participation and active engagement of all stakeholders in the development planning process.
Comprehensive Development and Achieving National Goals
Given the wide reach of the ‘Sabki Yojana, Sabka Vikas’ campaign, covering 65-68% of India’s population, its success is critical for realizing national progress and sustainable rural development. Prof. Baghel stated, “The campaign embodies the spirit of cooperative federalism and participatory planning at the grassroots level.” He added that the initiative aligns with the broader national goal of ‘developed panchayats for a developed India’ during the ‘Amrit Kaal’.

During the event, key publications such as a booklet on the ‘Jan Yojana Abhiyan (2024-25)’ and the ‘National Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA) Annual Work Plan 2024-25 Report’ will be released. In addition, the Hindi version of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj’s website will be launched, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to accessibility and transparency.
Highlighting Best Practices and New Initiatives
The workshop will also present best practices from various states to provide insights and recommendations to other states and Union Territories. New initiatives, such as collaboration with the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA), will also be discussed. This initiative engages academic institutions and students to assist in preparing high-quality PDPs, offering a learning opportunity for students and contributing to the overall development of rural areas.
Integrating Various Schemes for Holistic Development
The ‘Jan Yojana Abhiyan’ is a comprehensive initiative to ensure convergence of various government schemes at the panchayat level, fostering effective planning and implementation. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is working in coordination with the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS) to leverage the network of services under the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission.
Localizing Global Goals and Community Empowerment
Aligned with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the campaign emphasizes the localization of these goals to ensure that rural development efforts are consistent with global standards.
