AHMEDABAD, (Economy India): Gujarat Police have recovered 11 lakh for a Sydney-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) who was allegedly cheated in an online gold purchase fraud. The amount was recovered within a month of the complaint being received, showcasing the swift action taken by the Amreli district police.

According to officials, the victim, Saurabh Jolly, who lives in Sydney, Australia, filed a complaint via email in June after losing money in the fraud. The complaint triggered an immediate investigation by the Amreli police.

Police said Jolly had transferred 11 lakh in April to a person in Gujarat’s Amreli district for the purchase of gold. However, despite receiving the payment, the accused failed to deliver the promised bullion.

Amreli Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat said the investigation led to the successful recovery of the entire amount within weeks. The recovered money has been returned to the complainant.
