CM Vishnu Deo Sai meets Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh; new industrial policy gives textile sector thrust status to boost investment and employment

RAIPUR (Economy India): Chhattisgarh has significant potential to emerge as a major textile and apparel manufacturing hub in Central India, with the state government stepping up efforts to attract investment, create jobs and integrate traditional textile skills with modern technology and design.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai met Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh in New Delhi and discussed the expansion of the textile industry in Chhattisgarh, investment opportunities, employment generation, modern technology and innovation.

During the meeting, Sai briefed the Union Minister about the incentives provided to the textile sector under the state’s Industrial Development Policy 2024-30 and the growing interest of investors in setting up new textile units in the state.

Under the Industrial Development Policy 2024-30, the textile sector has been included as a thrust sector, with attractive incentives and subsidies available for investors.

According to the state government, these policy measures have helped increase investor interest and are paving the way for the establishment of new textile and apparel units.

Special Incentives for Industries Creating Over 1,000 Jobs

Employment generation is a key objective of Chhattisgarh’s industrial policy.

The policy provides special incentives for industrial units that generate employment for more than 1,000 people.

The textile and apparel industry is particularly important from an employment perspective because it is labour-intensive and has the potential to create large-scale direct and indirect employment.

The expansion of the sector is expected to create new opportunities for local youth and women while also supporting ancillary industries and local entrepreneurship.

Textile Manufacturing Ecosystem Taking Shape in Nava Raipur

The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that the establishment of new textile industrial units in Nava Raipur Atal Nagar is gaining momentum.

The state government aims to develop more than just manufacturing facilities. It plans to create an integrated textile ecosystem connecting design, production, skill development, technology, innovation and market access.

Such an ecosystem could help strengthen the entire value chain while creating employment and business opportunities for local communities.

Traditional Kosa Silk to Get Modern Market Access

Chhattisgarh has a rich textile and handicraft heritage, with Kosa silk from Champa and surrounding areas being one of the state’s most distinctive traditional products.

The state government wants to connect this traditional expertise with modern design, technology, branding and wider markets.

The integration of traditional weaving skills with contemporary fashion and manufacturing could help Chhattisgarh’s textile products reach new domestic and international markets.

NIFT to Promote Modern Design and Technology

Sai also highlighted the importance of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in strengthening the state’s textile ecosystem.

The institute is expected to provide young people with opportunities for advanced education and training in fashion design, textile technology and related modern disciplines.

It could also help local weavers, artisans and entrepreneurs benefit from contemporary design techniques and technological innovation.

Greater coordination between institutions such as NIFT and textile manufacturing units could help develop a stronger value chain from design to manufacturing.

Chhattisgarh Can Emerge as Central India’s Textile Hub

Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by the Chhattisgarh government to expand the textile industry.

He said the textile and apparel sector has significant opportunities both in India and globally. Chhattisgarh’s resources, investment-friendly policies and employment-focused incentives could make the state an attractive destination for textile investments.

Singh said expansion of textile units could generate employment on a large scale and help Chhattisgarh establish itself as a major textile hub in Central India.

Centre Assures Support for Technology and Innovation

The Union Textile Minister assured the Chief Minister that the Centre would provide all possible support for the expansion of the textile industry in Chhattisgarh.

He particularly emphasised cooperation between the Centre and state government in areas such as modern technology, innovation, skill development and expansion of new opportunities in the textile sector.

Singh noted that the textile industry is undergoing rapid transformation and that technology and innovation are becoming increasingly important for improving competitiveness.

Investment, Jobs and Heritage in One Textile Ecosystem

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the state government’s objective is to build a textile ecosystem that brings together investment, employment, traditional textile skills, modern design and technology.

With the incentives under the new industrial policy, the emerging industrial environment in Nava Raipur and institutions such as NIFT, Chhattisgarh is seeking to position itself among India’s leading textile and apparel manufacturing destinations.

The focus on combining the state’s traditional textile heritage with modern manufacturing capabilities could provide a new growth avenue for investment, employment and local entrepreneurship in Chhattisgarh.
