Raipur (Economy India): In a significant boost to water conservation, rural infrastructure, and local employment, the Chhattisgarh government has approved development works worth ₹10.93 crore for the Bhatgaon विधानसभा क्षेत्र. The projects aim to strengthen irrigation facilities, revive water bodies, promote eco-tourism, and create livelihood opportunities for local youth.
The approvals come following the sustained efforts of Women & Child Development and Social Welfare Minister and Bhatgaon MLA, Smt. Laxmi Rajwade, who has been actively advocating for the rejuvenation of critical water resources in the region.
Focus on Water Security and Rural Economy
Under the sanctioned projects, ₹4.94 crore has been approved for the renovation of the Brijeshwar Sagar Reservoir Scheme in Bhaiyathan block of Surajpur district. Additionally, ₹4.73 crore has been allocated for the rejuvenation of the Kurridih Reservoir Scheme, while ₹1.26 crore has been sanctioned for the repair and restoration of the Basnara reservoir (pond) located in Odgi block.
These initiatives are expected to significantly enhance water storage capacity, improve irrigation coverage, and ensure year-round water availability for agricultural and domestic use.
Tourism and Employment Generation
Beyond strengthening water security, the restored reservoirs are expected to contribute to tourism development by preserving natural landscapes and promoting eco-friendly recreational activities. This, in turn, is likely to generate new employment and income opportunities for local youth, particularly in tourism services, maintenance, and allied sectors.
Government Emphasis on Timely Execution
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Smt. Laxmi Rajwade stated that conservation and development of water resources are crucial for strengthening the rural economy. She emphasized that tourism-led growth can serve as a sustainable employment engine for young people in the region.
She also directed concerned officials to ensure that all sanctioned works are completed within the stipulated timeline and with strict adherence to quality standards.
Driving Inclusive Regional Growth
The ₹10.93 crore investment reflects the state government’s broader focus on sustainable development, balancing infrastructure growth with environmental conservation. Once completed, these projects are expected to accelerate overall socio-economic development in the Bhatgaon constituency and surrounding areas.
