NEW DELHI, (Economy india):CNG prices in Delhi and adjoining cities will increase by Rs 3.89 per kg from Saturday, Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) announced on Friday.

The revised prices will come into effect from 6 am on Saturday, according to the company.

IGL said the price increase has become necessary because a significant portion of the gas used for supplying CNG is being sourced through imported liquefied natural gas (LNG). International LNG prices in the spot market have risen sharply since the beginning of the West Asia conflict, increasing the overall cost of gas supplies.

“With international LNG prices remaining elevated and the cost impact becoming increasingly significant, a calibrated revision of Rs 3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partially offset the increase in input gas cost,” IGL said in its statement.

The increase is expected to affect thousands of CNG vehicle owners in Delhi and neighbouring cities, including private car owners, taxi operators, auto-rickshaw drivers and commercial transport operators.

CNG has traditionally been considered a more economical and cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel. However, rising international gas prices and increased dependence on imported LNG have put pressure on domestic CNG prices.

IGL supplies CNG and piped natural gas to Delhi and several adjoining areas in the National Capital Region. The latest revision reflects the impact of higher global energy prices on consumers in India.

The company said the increase is aimed at partially recovering the rising cost of input gas while continuing to ensure the availability of CNG across its distribution network.

With the new rates taking effect on Saturday morning, CNG users in Delhi and nearby cities will have to pay Rs 3.89 more for every kilogram of the fuel.
