Guwahati (Economy India): The Assam government on Monday began disbursing the first tranche of interim financial assistance of around ₹75,000 to flood-affected households as part of its rehabilitation efforts in the state’s flood-ravaged districts.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is currently touring the worst-hit areas of Upper Assam, formally released the first installment of relief from Dibrugarh, aiming to provide immediate financial support to families whose homes and livelihoods have been severely affected by the devastating floods.

Death Toll Climbs to 85

According to government officials, the flood-related death toll in Assam has increased to 85, with three more fatalities reported on Sunday. Despite the continued loss of life, there has been some improvement in the flood situation, with the number of affected people declining to around 1.35 lakh.

Authorities said the relief assistance is intended to help families meet immediate rehabilitation and recovery needs while the government continues restoration work in the affected regions.

Relief and Rehabilitation Underway

The state administration has intensified relief operations, including the distribution of financial assistance, food supplies, drinking water, medical services and other essential support.
