Indian crew member killed in Iranian

SHARESHARESHARESHARE

Dubai ( Economy India ): An Indian crew member was killed and six other Indian nationals were among those injured after two UAE oil tankers were hit by Iranian cruise missiles in the Strait of Hormuz, close to Oman, on Tuesday.

The attack marks a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict in West Asia and has raised fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.

Tankers Targeted in Omani Waters

According to the UAE Ministry of Defence, the country’s tankers Mombasa and Al Bahiyah were struck by two Iranian cruise missiles while sailing through the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz within Omani territorial waters.

The ministry confirmed that one Indian crew member aboard the Mombasa tanker lost his life in the attack.

Several Crew Members Injured

A total of eight crew members were injured in the missile strike, including six Indian nationals. Officials said four of the injured are in serious condition and are receiving medical treatment.

Authorities are continuing rescue and emergency response operations while assessing the damage caused to the vessels.

Strategic Importance of the Strait of Hormuz

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, with a significant share of global oil exports passing through the narrow waterway every day. Any disruption in the region has the potential to impact global energy markets and international shipping.

Investigation Underway

The UAE has condemned the attack and is working with regional authorities to investigate the incident. The latest strike is expected to heighten tensions in the Middle East and increase security concerns for commercial shipping in the region.

The death of an Indian crew member and injuries to several others highlight the growing risks faced by merchant vessels operating in conflict-prone waters. The international community is closely monitoring developments as tensions continue to rise in West Asia.
