The new digital platform aims to boost collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and global competitiveness in India’s startup ecosystem.
NEW DELHI (Economy India): In a significant move to strengthen India’s burgeoning startup sector, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, unveiled the ‘Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry’ (Bhaskar) portal. This platform is designed to enhance cooperation, competition, and innovation among Indian startups while making them more globally competitive.
A New Dawn for Indian Startups
Bhaskar, meaning “rising sun,” symbolizes the growing strength of Indian startups. Speaking at the launch event, Piyush Goyal emphasized the importance of this name, explaining that the sun brings “knowledge, light, and growth.” He said, “Bhaskar will foster collaboration, cooperation, and competition among entrepreneurs. It will unite dreamers and doers to make significant changes through their efforts.”
The portal serves as a one-stop digital platform for startups, aiming to simplify access to resources, facilitate communication, and promote knowledge-sharing. The platform is part of the larger Startup India initiative, which has been instrumental in driving India’s entrepreneurial growth.
Boosting the Startup Ecosystem
The Bhaskar portal is set to become a central hub for India’s 1.4 lakh startups, as recognized by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). It will provide a unified platform for collaboration between startups, investors, mentors, service providers, and government bodies.
“India’s startup ecosystem has grown exponentially,” Goyal said, “and now it’s time to bring this growth under one roof, where knowledge-sharing and resource exchange can happen seamlessly.”
Bhaskar will also help streamline the fragmented resources and stakeholders within the ecosystem, offering a structured way for startups to access essential services and expertise.
A Step Towards Global Competitiveness
The government’s vision for Bhaskar is to make Indian startups self-reliant and globally competitive. Piyush Goyal highlighted that for startups to succeed on the international stage, they must prioritize “honesty, quality, and determination.” He stressed that Bhaskar will provide a platform to foster these values, helping startups to thrive independently.
The platform’s user-friendly interface will enable startups to easily connect with other ecosystem players, allowing them to share ideas, access information, and develop new business opportunities.
Key Features of Bhaskar
- Industry Collaboration: Bhaskar brings together stakeholders from different sectors, technologies, and regions, creating opportunities for mutual growth.
- Dynamic Networking: Entrepreneurs can easily connect with like-minded individuals through personalized dashboards, ensuring they are always one click away from their next big opportunity.
- Increased Visibility: Startups can create profiles with visibility tools, allowing them to showcase their work within the ecosystem.
- Bhaskar ID: Each user will receive a unique ID, linking their digital profile to a personalized dashboard. This ID will help startups access various services and be discovered by others.
According to DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Singh Bhatia, “Bhaskar will act as a catalyst for innovation, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, ensuring inclusive growth and access to opportunities for all.”
Empowering Startups for the Future
The platform will be vital in transforming India’s image on the global stage. Bhaskar aims to elevate the ‘Brand India’ initiative, helping Indian products and services reach international markets. “Technology and connectivity will help Indian startups sell their products worldwide,” Goyal said.
Bhaskar also aims to encourage startups to take risks, innovate, and learn from failures. Goyal emphasized, “Encouraging our entrepreneurs to become job creators and helping them view failure as a stepping stone will unlock big ideas.”
The government is keen to establish a Section 8 company under the National Startup Advisory Council (NSAC) to further encourage entrepreneurship. Additionally, startups recognized as unicorns will be incentivized through share allotments, giving them a competitive edge.
Looking Ahead: Bhaskar 2.0
The launch of Bhaskar is just the beginning. Goyal hinted at the upcoming Bhaskar 2.0, which will feature more advanced technology and tools to further streamline the startup ecosystem. “We are building a platform that will evolve with the needs of the industry,” Goyal said, expressing optimism about the future of Indian entrepreneurship.
DPIIT Joint Secretary Sanjeev highlighted that Bhaskar will act as a “guiding light” for startups, helping them navigate challenges and seize opportunities in the ever-changing market landscape.
With the launch of Bhaskar, India’s startup ecosystem is poised to enter a new era of innovation and growth. The platform is set to integrate and empower startups across the country, helping them compete on a global level. As India continues to rise as a startup powerhouse, Bhaskar will play a crucial role in driving the next wave of entrepreneurial success.
