Central bank levies monetary penalties of ₹8.10 lakh on Shriram Finance Corporation and ₹2.70 lakh on Profin

Mumbai (Economy India): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed monetary penalties on Shriram Finance Corporation and Profin for non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements and directions, the central bank said on Friday.

According to an RBI statement, a monetary penalty of ₹8.10 lakh has been imposed on Shriram Finance Corporation, while Profin has been fined ₹2.70 lakh.

RBI Takes Action Over Regulatory Non-Compliance

The penalties were imposed after the central bank identified instances of non-compliance with applicable regulations and directions.

The RBI said the action was taken in exercise of its regulatory powers. Such monetary penalties are part of the central bank’s supervisory framework aimed at ensuring that regulated entities comply with applicable rules and instructions.

₹8.10 Lakh Penalty on Shriram Finance Corporation

According to the central bank, Shriram Finance Corporation has been fined ₹8.10 lakh for non-compliance with certain regulatory requirements.

The penalty follows the RBI’s examination of the company’s compliance with applicable rules and directions.

The central bank has consistently emphasised that financial entities must maintain robust systems and processes to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Profin Fined ₹2.70 Lakh

The RBI has also imposed a ₹2.70 lakh monetary penalty on Profin.

The action was taken after the central bank found non-compliance with certain provisions and directions applicable to the entity.

The RBI’s regulatory measures are intended to reinforce compliance standards and ensure that financial institutions operate within the framework prescribed by the central bank.

Penalty Does Not Necessarily Indicate Customer Transactions Are Invalid

RBI monetary penalties for regulatory non-compliance are generally supervisory actions concerning the entity’s compliance with applicable rules.

The imposition of a penalty does not, by itself, imply that all transactions or agreements entered into by the concerned entity are invalid. The action is primarily related to the identified regulatory shortcomings.

RBI Continues to Strengthen Financial Sector Compliance

The latest penalties are part of the RBI’s broader supervisory approach toward regulated financial entities.

The central bank regularly conducts inspections and reviews to assess compliance with its directions and regulatory framework. Where violations or shortcomings are identified, the RBI can impose monetary penalties or take other supervisory measures as permitted under applicable laws.

The latest action involving Shriram Finance Corporation and Profin underscores the importance of maintaining adequate compliance mechanisms within financial institutions.
