Police Say Accused Was Unhappy About Child’s Birth; Arrest Made Following Year-Long Investigation
GURUGRAM (Economy India): Gurugram Police have arrested a man accused of poisoning and killing his five-month-old son, allegedly because he was unhappy about the child’s birth from a live-in relationship, officials said on Tuesday.
The arrest comes more than a year after the infant’s death, following an investigation initiated on the basis of a complaint filed by the child’s mother, who was living with the accused at the time of the incident.
Child Declared Dead at Hospital
According to police officials, the case dates back to January 5 last year when authorities received information that a five-month-old infant had been taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
Doctors at the hospital subsequently declared the child dead.
The circumstances surrounding the infant’s death raised suspicion, prompting further inquiry by law enforcement agencies.
FIR Registered on Mother’s Complaint
Following the incident, the child’s mother lodged a formal complaint alleging foul play in her son’s death.
Based on her statement, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched a detailed investigation into the matter.
Officials stated that evidence collected during the investigation eventually pointed toward the involvement of the child’s father.
Allegations Against the Accused
According to investigators, the accused was allegedly unhappy about the birth of the child and is suspected of administering a poisonous substance that resulted in the infant’s death.
Police officials have not disclosed the exact nature of the poison or the circumstances under which it was allegedly given to the child, citing the ongoing investigation.
The accused was taken into custody after investigators gathered sufficient evidence linking him to the crime.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Authorities said the case was thoroughly examined over several months, with investigators collecting witness statements, medical records and other forensic evidence.
The accused is expected to face charges under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and other applicable laws.
Police indicated that further questioning is underway and additional details may emerge as the investigation progresses.
Concerns Over Crimes Against Children
The case has once again highlighted concerns regarding crimes involving minors and domestic disputes.
Child rights advocates have emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable children and ensuring strict legal action in cases involving violence against infants and minors.
Law enforcement agencies continue to urge citizens to report suspected abuse or threats to children at the earliest stage to prevent tragic outcomes.
The arrest marks a significant development in a case that shocked local residents and drew attention to issues surrounding child safety and domestic conflicts.
Authorities have assured that the matter will be pursued in accordance with the law and that all facts related to the case will be presented before the court during the legal proceedings.
