India and Finland Renew MoU on Environmental Cooperation

Partnership to strengthen collaboration on pollution control, waste management, circular economy, and climate action

(Economy India): India and Finland have renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on environmental cooperation to further strengthen collaboration between the two countries in key areas such as pollution prevention, waste management, circular economy, and climate action.

The renewed agreement was signed in New Delhi by Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav and Finland’s Minister of Climate and the Environment Sari Multala.

In a post on X, Bhupender Yadav expressed his happiness over the renewal of the MoU, which was originally signed in 2020. He said the renewed agreement will deepen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as pollution prevention and control, waste management, climate change, forests, and natural resource management through knowledge sharing and technology collaboration.

The renewed MoU will continue to provide a structured framework for cooperation and exchange of best practices between India and Finland. Key areas of collaboration include:

  • Prevention and control of air and water pollution, including remediation and reuse of contaminated soil
  • Waste management, including hazardous waste, waste-to-energy technologies, and recycling
  • Promotion of a circular economy in the use of natural resources and forests
  • Reduction of carbon emissions
  • Climate change mitigation and adaptation
  • Environmental and forest monitoring, including data management
  • Conservation and sustainable use of marine and coastal resources
  • Integrated water resource management

Both sides also discussed expanding cooperation opportunities in the circular economy through focused dialogue and joint initiatives.

The renewed agreement is expected to further strengthen environmental cooperation between India and Finland, promoting sustainable development and climate action
