Adani Power’s quarterly profit slips 11% YoY to ₹2,953 crore, while revenue remains steady; stock surges 54% this year amid strong operational performance.

Mumbai (Economy India): Adani Power Limited, a flagship company of the Adani Group and India’s largest private-sector thermal power producer, reported an 11% year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit at ₹2,953 crore for the second quarter (Q2) of the financial year 2025–26. The company had posted a profit of ₹3,332 crore during the corresponding period last year.

Revenue from operations stood at ₹14,308 crore, marginally higher than ₹13,339 crore in the same quarter of the previous year, reflecting steady energy demand but moderated by cost pressures and regulatory adjustments. The Q2 performance indicates resilience in operations amid a volatile input-cost environment.

Stable Revenue, Marginal Pressure on Margins

Despite a near-flat topline, the dip in profit indicates higher operating expenses and fluctuating coal prices, which impacted generation margins. However, consistent power offtake from state distribution utilities and long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) ensured stable revenue streams.

Adani Power’s management continues to focus on cost optimization, asset efficiency, and renewable diversification, which are expected to sustain performance in the coming quarters.

Share Performance: Strong Year-To-Date Gains

Adani Power’s stock has emerged as one of the top-performing energy sector stocks in 2024. On Thursday, the stock closed marginally higher at ₹162.22 per share, up 0.07%, following the announcement of Q2 results.

Over the last six months, the stock has gained more than 52%, and since January 2024, it is up by 54.01%, significantly outperforming the BSE Power Index.

  • 6-Month Gain: 52.45%

Operational Strength and Expansion

Established on August 22, 1996, Adani Power operates a total installed capacity of 15,250 MW, making it India’s largest private-sector thermal power producer.
The company’s plants are strategically located across major states — Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Jharkhand.

In addition, Adani Power runs a 40 MW solar power project in Gujarat, highlighting its gradual transition towards renewable energy. The company is also recognized under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) for its sustainable project implementations.

Industry Perspective

India’s power sector continues to witness robust electricity demand, driven by industrial recovery, rapid urbanization, and infrastructure growth. However, fuel cost volatility and regulatory tariff structures remain key challenges.

Analysts expect that Adani Power’s strong balance sheet, high asset utilization, and focus on cleaner power will keep it well-positioned to benefit from India’s long-term power demand growth.

“Adani Power’s ability to sustain steady revenue despite cost challenges underscores its operational strength and strategic project management,” said an energy analyst at Economy India Research Desk.
